Njord. The nordic god of the sea. One of the oldest gods, called Vanir. He is also the god of the weather, wealth, seafarer, and fishing. He is the father of the god Frej and goddess Freja. According to the Edda, book of Nordic mythology, Njord is one of the gods who will survive the apocalypse Ragnarök.
This painting is my absolute favorite. I wanted to paint what you see when you are under the water looking up at the sun. The dark surrounding, the bubbles, the bright sun and movements of the waves. To me the symbol means Njord. The three serpents symbolises Njord and his children still living in Asgard and not their right realm Vanheim. The runes on one of the serpents is written in the old futhark and says the Njord.
Thank you for showing interest in my art. I hope this painting will be a joy to you.
